Recall: Baby Cough Syrup for Deadly Bacteria Risk

    by Penci March 21, 2019

March 21, 2019 — A brand of baby cough syrup sold nationwide has been recalled because it could be contaminated with bacteria that could be life-threatening.

Kingston Pharmaceuticals of Massena, NY, has recalled DG/health NATURALS baby Cough Syrup + Mucus because it could contain Bacillus cereus or Bacillus circulans. B. cereus can lead to illnesses that cause vomiting or diarrhea. Most cases are mild, but there have been serious cases, some fatal.

Infants and young children and those with weakened immune systems are most at risk. There have been no reported illnesses connected to DG/health NATURALS baby Cough Syrup + Mucus as of March 20.

The recalled bottles come in a carton labeled DG/health NATURALS baby Cough Syrup + Mucus in 2-fluid ounce bottles marked with Lot KL180157. They have an expiration date of 11/20 on the bottom of the carton and on the back label of the bottle. They carry UPC Code 8 54954 00250 0.

Product testing discovered the contamination. One in 10 bottles tested found low levels of B. cereus, and 2 in 10 found low levels of B. circulans. Production has since been stopped while the investigation continues.

Consumers with recalled products may return them to the store for a refund. Call 844-724-7347, between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET with questions, or email [email protected]
