Angiotensin Receptor Blockers (Sartans, ARBs)
These substances block the activation of angiotensin II receptors. Blockage directly causes vasodilation, among other actions. The combined effect reduces blood pressure.
This is a drug class.Part of: Blood Pressure Medications (Antihypertensives)
About ARBs
Sartans block the effects of angiotensin, a hormone that increases blood pressure. Their side effects are similar to those of the ACE inhibitors, but coughing is less common with sartans. Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Heath Care
