This common type of acne is often overlooked, and yet normal acne products don’t entirely treat it.
If you struggle with acne that doesn’t respond as well as you expect to your acne care products, you may have this yeast type of acne, pityrosporum folliculitis.
What is Pityrosporum folliculitis?
It’s a type of acne caused by a skin yeast called Pityrosporum (also called Malassezia). This normal skin yeast sometimes overgrows what’s healthy and causes acne. The lesions of PF include bright red pimples that are both tender and itchy, and tiny clogged pores. Pityrosporum folliculitis mostly affects the skin on your upper chest and back, the hairline all along your face and neck, the forehead and jawline. When bad, the entire face is affected and acne creeps down the sides of your neck. Teens to middle age adults are most at risk for Pityrosporum folliculitis.Without treatment, this little yeast will raise havoc with your skin.
